Right To Play

Our goal is to raise $40,000, and with your help, we have raised $39,153 (98%) so far...

As of March 2008, Sport and Social Club's official charity is Right To Play, an athlete-driven humanitarian organization that uses specially-designed sport and play programs to improve health, build life skills and foster peace for children and communities affected by war, poverty and disease. A portion of all Sport and Social Club team registration fees will be donated to Right To Play in support of their important work.

With international headquarters in Toronto, Right To Play runs programs in 23 countries across Africa, Asia and the Middle East, giving children in the most disadvantaged areas of the world a reason to smile and hope for a brighter future. Toronto Sport and Social Club will also be donating used sports equipment to local youth through schools and community groups in the Toronto area. Acting globally and locally at the same time…it’s a winning combination. Read our updates below to keep up to speed with what you, Sport and Social Club and Right To Play are accomplishing!

UPDATES:
May 28, 2009

Below is a thank you note from a Right To Play community support worker who deals with the majority of the inner city primary schools here in the GTA. Her comments relate to used sports equipment donations from Sport and Social Club:

"...I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Toronto Sport and Social Club for the donations of used sports equipment you have provided to my schools over the past 2 years. As a result, 13 inner city schools have been able to provide additional equipment to their gym classes, sports teams, families and to their students during recess time. These schools exist in neighbourhoods where soccer balls, basketballs, frisbees and other equipment are not always readily available to these youth. It is with the generosity of organizations such as TSSC that we are able to share such gifts with our students and their families. Thank you again!"

THANK YOU! If you weren't at the Toronto Winter Season Wrap Up Party then you probably don't know that in 2008-2009, Sport & Social Club donated $24,000 to Right To Play from proceeds of every team that signed up for our leagues. To put that in perspective, this amount of money can provide weekly activity in Right To Play programs for 480 children for 1 year! AWESOME!! And you thought you were just having the time of your life playing sports with your friends... Our goal for 2009 is $40,000, and with your help, we know we can get there! In order to help out, we have given our members the ability to donate $2, $5 or $10 every time they register for a Sport and Social Club program. This is completely optional, but anything you can do to help us get there is greatly appreciated.
